Pica Pica - Make Sew Colour Bake Cut Paste Knit Create

My boyfriend and I decided to enter a competition that has been posted on the website http://www.jotta.com/jotta/. We are asked to design the cover of a magazine called Pica Pica http://www.picapicamag.co.uk/. This is their first printed issue that will be screenprinted in 3 colours. The tagline of the magazine is Make Sew Colour Bake Cut Paste Knit Create and the theme of their publication aims to promote craft and hand-made skills. Here are some shots of experimentations we did with paper, thread, scissors, glue, nails, hammer and a lot of fun.

Soul Game from Sophie Darly

One of my freelance job was to design the CD case of a Jazz singer: Sophie Darly. http://www.myspace.com/sodarly. First I designed a branding identity for Sophie Darly that has been applied on a business card, CD pack and promotional flyers. It was the first I was asked to design a CD pack cover and I thought it was a challenging project because this is similar to design a magazine cover; the imagery of the front cover of a CD pack needs to be very powerful in order to catch the attention to people. After presenting a couple of ideas to Sophie, she picked this very strong visual that moves radically from the conservative styles of traditional Jazz CD packs. I think she was right to make this decision because she got rewarded and her CD is now sold at one of the biggest French music retail store (La Fnac) in 2 different branches (Forum des Halles, Champs Elysées) located in Paris.

Corps à Corps - Short movie from Julien Ralanto

My brother shot his 2nd short movie last summer and I was glad to be asked to design the poster of his movie entitled Corps à Corps (whose English translation is "Hand to hand"). The movie is about a young woman who is questioning her gender identity after getting molested by two strangers. The composition of the poster is based on a segmentation of 3 crucial moments of the movie that emphasizes the complexity of the relationships between the characters.

Corps à Corps will be projected on Thursday 25 February on a boat in Paris: L
a Péniche Cinéma (Canal de l'Ourcq, Parc de la Villette-métro porte de la Villette ou Porte de Pantin) Festival Courts-Bouillons - Free entry.

From origami to props

Over the weekend I was working on a project that required some crafty skills. I then decided to make origamis. While I was doing some research on the topic, I luckily bumped into the website of an amazing photographer called Gregoire Alexandre who transformed a section of the colorama into a giant origami. Amazing concept, amazing picture!

His style is very unique and innovative. His photography is based on experimenting with the entire space of the set and challenging the initial purposes of props and photographic devices.

Reflection

Hello.

I am a graphic designer based in London and today - Tuesday 23 February 2010 - I decide to start blogging. I am interested in pretty much everything that relates to artistic activities such as design, visual communication, painting, movie, music, dance, fashion, architecture, photography.

Aesthetics, yes, is a good word to define my interest.

I spend time during the day to look around and observe my surroundings in the quest for a source of inspiration.
How often I bump into an amazing website... I like the idea of blogging, sharing and recording the goodies.

So here it is.

Let's blog.
